Pyrrhus Concer Home Site
Archaeological investigations shed light on the nineteenth century home of Pyrrhus Concer, a man who was born into slavery during the era of Gradual Emancipation in New York State. Concer is remembered as a freed slave, a whaleman, an entrepreneur, and a respected resident of the village. His home was demolished by private developers in 2015 after a long battle over historic preservation between local historians and advocates. The artifacts and historical data will eventually be exhibited at the site and inform the historical narrative of Concer’s life.
